MIJAS (Mijas) - a kind of pearl of the Costa del Sol. The picturesque location of this traditional 'white village' on a mountainside with a stunning panoramic view of the coast, a huge number of restaurants with terraces, the largest number of souvenir shops, makes this town the most attractive place for tourists.

The traditional form of transport in Mijas is the 'burro taxi' - smartly decorated donkeys harnessed to passenger carts. All donkeys have a license plate and are dressed in bright blankets.

In addition, there is an observation deck on the coast. In good weather, you can see how another batch of Moroccans sails off the coast of Africa on makeshift boats and rafts. The panorama is wonderful.

Noteworthy is the Virgen de la Pena skete, which carefully stores the statue of the Madonna, found in 1586 by the children of a village mason. According to legend, the children were led to a grotto hidden from prying eyes by a white dove. Then, right in the grotto, a small church was built, which became a place of pilgrimage for believers.

Some of the walls of Mijas are 1300 years old or more, so both from a historical and architectural point of view, Mijas pueblo is of undoubted interest. There is always a holiday in Mijas - at different times of the year a huge number of carnivals, extravaganzas, processions and other very bright events are held here.

And for those who prefer cultural and educational recreation to entertainment, it is worth visiting the Museum of Local Lore, the Art Gallery, the watchtower of Cala de Mijas, which houses the Maritime Museum. And, of course, the water park, hippodrome and bullfighting arena.

Approximately half of the inhabitants of Mijas are citizens of other states. Many of them, living in Spain, do not know Spanish at all. A specific micro-infrastructure has developed, within which the Spaniards themselves feel like guests in their own home.
For example, there are pubs owned by the British. They are visited, respectively, by the British. At the initiative of the Mijas City Hall, the Department for Work with Foreign Residents was even created - the first such organization in Spain. Officials are instructed to help foreigners in every possible way in solving their pressing problems.
